Women’s Initiative Gambia strives with three main values: empowerment, cooperation and growth. Each Project “WIG”, undertakes begins with the participation of the women and considers their views regarding ways of generating income as well specific local needs. WIG, has worked with women in many projects including recycling organic matter to produce charcoal briquettes, cleaning up plastic waste and producing saleable craft projects, beekeeping, and the prospects for future project interventions.

Members of the Women’s Initiative Gambia pick up plastic waste on a trash dump in Brikama town. The plastic is then used to make bags and jewellery that the women then sell for extra income. particularly plastic, but also the empowerment of women in the male dominated society. Over one hundred women are now involved in Women’s initiative Gambia. WIG was conceived and designed by Isatou to increase the income of financially poor women in The Gambia.  Each project is designed to give rural women an expanded voice
